Since I need to focus my attention elsewhere, I’m not sure if that means I will posting way more on this blog, or way less over the next few days. Only time will tell. All I know is that I hate it, and I really don’t get any pleasure out of it, and it will be a huge relief when it is all over.
The common wisdom is that you don’t tell anyone that you are quitting. I’ve tried the common wisdom thing many times with no positive results. So I figured, what the hell, I’ll blog it.
I was going to make this a New Year’s resolution – but I was inspired to quit and didn’t want to wait. The I was going to make it a Christmas present to Janelle, but I still didn’t want to wait, and I’m really doing for myself anyways.
My posts over the next several days may sound angry. Just forgive me and keep coming around!
When Chic and I were stuck in another State because he was robbed by the film producers who decided not to pay him, for some reason he chose that time to stop smoking. After six weeks, I had to beg him to take it up again: he had become a stranger. Happy to report that he did, and that he gave it up once back in Sydney – with the help of Nicabate chewing-gum. I wish you all the luck in the world, me old china …
This worries me just a bit π how did he become a stranger? Thanks for the wish of luck, I think it’s gonna stick, because I simply don’t like the habit any longer. It doesn’t give me the peace or comfort it used to. It’s just there, dangerous and expensive!
I quit yesterday, Mar 3, 2014 and I feel free!!! and I quote ” It’s just there, dangerous and expensive!”
Congratulations! It took me a while to respond – are you still quit?
Good luck!
Thank you!!!
Best of luck to you, I think you’re gonna make it. Pulling for you.
Thank you! I appreciate the vote of confidence – I really mean that!
I am so happy

That’s funny! It’s awesome, cus it is also very very true!!!
congrats!
Thank you! I’m promising myself some very expensive treat when I have deemed myself completely cured!
the adjective “some” actually made treat sound like it was drugs or something… It should read like, “some random expensive treat, don’t know what it is yet”
funny. my mind didn’t go there. i thought Xbox, season tickets, Ferrari, dude stuff:) youre way too smart to replace one drug (nicotine) with another, although caffeine is a drug, just saying:)
Glad your mind went to the right place. I was thinking a 1972 Telecaster Thinline. Just looking at the guitar makes we want to cry tears of joy π And yes, caffeine will be a large part of this process π
Good luck and well done.
Thank you thank you! It’s exciting π
Congratulations!! From someone who quit smoking 3 packs a day and quit 9 years ago, I can tell you that apart form a few days irritation [a little edgy maybe] you’ll fell incredibly good about yourself and to add to this, time will miraculously expand. You’ll have much more time in your hands. No idea why this happens but believe me, it’s true! Get ready for extra hobbies! π
Oh, and contrary to what people say, it’s easy! Smile and it’s history!
Thanks for this! I’m looking forward to the extra time, and since I’ve kept having to tell myself that it’s easy, it was very nice to have it confirmed!
Best of luck!
thank you! so far, so good!
Thanks so much for the follow! π I so appreciate it!
I think by being public about quitting is great – you have people who support you and help keep you on track. There’s a tendency to not want to go back on something we tell the world we are going to do. At least that is the case for me – I feel more accountable when I share a goal with social media, friends and family. I quit smoking 8 months ago and did it cold turkey. The first little bit I used one of those e-cigarettes from time to time, mostly only when I’d have a drink or…three. But looking back, although it was a bit challenging, it was much easier than I had thought and what everyone else tells you.
When you’re ready to give it up, you will and you won’t look back. You’re going to do this! Any little bit of bumps (if any) along the way are going to worth it! Cheers!
Thanks for the vote of confidence. So far, so good! It’s good to hear about other people who successfully quit cold turkey. I wish I had waited until after Christmas, but that is when I was inspired, I figured I’d better capitalize on it while the desire to quit was still strong!
Good luck, Matthew. May the worst of it be over before the New Year.
Thanks, Renae. I think the worst of it is over now, thank God. I’m a lot more calm and much less pissy now. Sometimes I think the pissy attitude came just because everyone says it’s “supposed to” when one gives up smoking. Almost like it was a manufactured attitude, and not genuine pissiness. Gotta think on it longer, though. Good to hear from you! Got another ghost pic coming soon!!
I made quitting smoking a first birthday present to my son. Didn’t want to be an “Indian giver”, so I haven’t smoked in 30+ years. Good luck, it can be done. Thanks for visiting my blog.
Thanks! It’s been just over three weeks now and I have smoked two cigarettes in that time. The fact that it was 17 degrees below zero helped more than I can say. Thanks for the encouragement!
keep up the great work!!!
Gracias! It has now been more than three weeks since I have smoked a cigarette. I usually like to encourage people to do the right thing, so I’m not going to talk about how miserable I am π I’ll just tell ’em it was easy, and that they should quit smoking too
Belated, I know, Matthew, but good for you. Might be weird, but like the photo a lot. Hope you’re still holding up ok…
